About & Testimonials

Reset Your Weight is an extension of years of evidence-based research and personal curiosity into using real food as the primary means to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.  Then, when you feel better, it becomes so much easier to slide in some High Interval Intensity Training (HITT) for even more benefits.

My journey started with the GAPS Diet and has led to a life of food freedom: freedom from (sugar) cravings, freedom from obsessing about what food to eat for a slimmer body, and a greater understanding of how the body and brain benefit from a balanced microbiome.

Hi, I’m Amanda, and, welcome to Reset Your Weight!

I am a lover of all things food, but I am and advocate for any and all recipes/meal plans that use real ingredients.  My basic foods that I enjoy daily are more traditional: bone broth and cultured, fermented foods for a healed and healthy gut microbiome so that any food’s nutrients are properly digested, absorbed, and optimized like solid gold by your body.

If you are not already, follow me on Instagram to see just how easy it is to incorporate real ingredients and traditional foods into your meals for a healthy weight lifestyle.

Check out the Reset Your Weight Facebook page to watch LIVE fermented food DIY videos and for other great food and nutrition website posts.  I also share new blog posts from the Reset Your Weight blog on both Facebook and Twitter.

Testimonials for Reset Your Weight

Jolyn C., nontraditional undergrad student and mother of 3:

“I’m used to making my own bone broth and hearty soups but not combined with probiotics. I went a week on the Reset Flush Challenge and dropped 6 pounds.  I felt great, had more energy, and it diminished food cravings. My doctor approved it.  Reset Your Weight works.”

Michelle in Terryville, CT, and mom of 8 says:

“It took me a little while to figure out how to make bone broth, but once I was in the groove, it was something to do simply.  I had it for lunchtime and found that I didn’t crave anything the whole afternoon-even a snack.  I felt very satisfied, no dips in my mood, and I didn’t need coffee.

“Also, I had suffered from chronic pains due to mild arthritis.  Once I started taking bone broth consistently, no more pain!

“Basic kraut is very easy to make for a source of good probiotics.  I couldn’t mess it up! I ate it plain and mixed it with sausage.”

Paula W. in New Jersey:

“Bone broth soups kept me full much longer so I ate less. That alone reduced my food intake so I lost weight AND felt great.  Back pain lessened as well.

I also started making water kefir for my probiotic drink. Easy and tastes great.”

Joe, age 39, who enjoys eating anything with sausage in it:

“I’m not going to lie: my wife made me do it simply because she makes my meals.  I eat what she packs in my lunch and chow down on dinner when I get home late at night.  I’m eating way more raw vegetables than I thought possible in one day and I’m actually full.  My go to food now is lentil tacos and sausage with spicy sauerkraut.

“I swapped my diet soda for carbonated kombucha soda-most of the time, and I really do feel better with that change; I tried carbonated water kefir, but the kombucha hits the spot.  To get myself to drink more water, I bought a bottle of pure tart cherry juice and add a splash into my water.

“If I added bone broth back in, I remember feeling exceptional and having more energy, and I’d like that back. It’s just hard with my work’s lunch break right now; I don’t like to eat cold soup!”

About A.VanDeWege, Author & Foodie

Not too long ago, I was addicted to sugar and ate for comfort.  While I have many positive attributes, when it came to food, I was very distracted (Oh look, a cookie…).  Since I’m not really a “diet” type of person, I didn’t know what to change and so I seldom did anything for long enough to see any weight loss.  I found out later that this lack of internal motivation had deep roots…

A friend reset my weight more than five years ago.

foodie friends, healthy living, weight loss

She loved to cook and bake, and everything she made-and I mean everything, was delicious.  Not only delicious, but it didn’t “stick” to her at all. Ever. She was pencil thin and looked so much younger than her actual age.

Did I mention she had previously lost a total of 175 pounds, which was my starting weight?

I’ll be honest: I wanted to look just like her; I craved being a healthy thin person, not encumbered by excess weight that made daily living tiring.

That wasn’t always the case for her, though, and that’s why I blindly followed her when she introduced me to the GAPS diet.  In many ways, her story became mine because she knew just how real the struggle to control body weight and food choices was, especially for someone who loves food!

Too Many Choices

In most cultures and societies, food comes with plenty of choices.  Sometimes, those choices start to consume the consumer.  When that happens, weight gain is usually inevitable because craving food comes with an insatiable appetite that is hard to control or fulfill. (Read this post about why that happens).

The concept of using food to lose weight is not new. Countless blogs and books detail plans, menus, and recipes that target food.  Why?  Food is a basic necessity of life and we cannot not think about it every day. Or can we?

What my friend gave me was a way out-a free pass, to resetting my relationship with food using food.  All I cared about was losing weight, a craving I’d hungered after for years but was not capable of doing despite my best efforts.  She taught me that food can give me freedom as well.

    1. Glad to help! Keep it simple: get to love bone broth (so many good flavor combinations out there!) and cook with or drink it daily, and explore fermentation, which is a great way to introduce and sustain your gut (digestion) with good bacteria-probiotics. Why food and not just a pill? Pills are expensive and do not contain nearly as many beneficial bacteria as a fermented food-and why pay way more for a pill when will always need to eat food? Use food to your advantage to lose weight and sustain losses! These two inclusions into whatever you choose to eat will help you lose weight 🙂
